As a software developer, I have been voice crying in the wilderness, trying to make requirements clear, use every minute to deliver the result, and not reinvent the wheel. Scrummer makes estimation sessions productive and fun as it features a Fibonacci sequence to estimate tasks coupled with funny plots on each card and lively animated mascots. Impekable redesigned JSwipe’s app, upgrading the user interface with a sleek new look, implementing new features and an effective monetization strategy. Our team designed multiple mobile interfaces to support home buyers of Pentair’s pool supplies, as well as the company’s service technicians in the field. Alamofire allows easy integration of APIs into applications, making the process incredibly convenient and faster for developers.

We develop enterprise-grade software solutions for businesses.

While the concept of a tablet-specific interface didn’t last long, many of Honeycomb’s ideas laid the groundwork for the Android we know today. Android 3.0 came into the world as a tablet-only release to accompany the launch of the Motorola Xoom, and through the subsequent 3.1 and 3.2 updates, it remained a tablet-exclusive (and closed-source) entity. The release’s most transformative element was the addition of voice-guided turn-by-turn navigation and real-time traffic info — something previously unheard of (and still essentially unmatched) in the smartphone world. Navigation aside, Eclair brought live wallpapers to Android as well as the platform’s first speech-to-text function. And it made waves for injecting the once-iOS-exclusive pinch-to-zoom capability into Android — a move often seen as the spark that ignited Apple’s long-lasting “thermonuclear war” against Google.

She’s also a lecturer in game design at the Berklee College of Music, and a hobbyist game developer in her spare time. They also offered feedback on what is not useful in a GDD, like telling your team to just copy a specific mechanic from other games or make very early reference art too elaborate. "In solo dev contexts, my docs are mostly to communicate with external contributors or gather ideas, but for the most part I typically don't design in-doc unless it's necessary for some kind of archival or communication purpose. If your game features audio (and most do!) it can be useful to include high-level notes on sound design or musical needs here in the GDD. A character web that shows characters' relationships can be very helpful (again, as long as it is clear and easy to parse) for projects with multiple characters and interpersonal dynamics.

Your instinct might be to leap directly into a massive game design document, but please don’t waste your time and energy yet. In the U.S., the market value is about to exceed $200 billion by 2023. To succeed in the industry, you must consider every aspect of the process, including every piece of documentation. In this post, we will look closely at one of the most important cornerstones of your future release — a game design doc or a GDD. That said, there are a few recommendations that most game designers would include when creating a GDD template.

How To Write A Game Design Document?

To figure that out, a High Level Game Design Document (HL-GDD) is essential. One-page designs work well because, just like the builder’s blueprint, they allow you to communicate an entire idea on a single page. For example, if you’re trying to balance the stats of different weapons in your game then designing them all on one “weapon balance” page makes a lot of sense, as you’ll be able to see how they compare at a glance.

In essence, a Game Design Document is a detailed, living plan of your future game’s design and structure. It should not be confused with Game Concept Paper, which is part of the GDD. This “document” can be a word format file or an online collaboration board, but the content is more or less the same. Kevuru Games meticulously oversees every aspect of game level design, crafting comprehensive documentation to establish a well-organized GDD that upholds coherence in the gaming experience. The title page of a GDD generally includes the game’s name, a relevant visual, and other pertinent details that identify the project.

Game elements

The other stuff can come later during pre-production or the full production process. This is the 'shopping list' we'll use to price out all of the art or other individual items that comprise your game. The important thing is that, whatever you do choose, it should be as easy as possible to understand.

Game Industry Career Guide

Discuss any environmental hazards or obstacles players must overcome, and explain how those elements contribute to the game’s overall challenge and pacing. The Level Design section describes the layout, progression, and goals for each level or area in your game. Start by outlining the structure and flow of your levels, including any branching paths, exploration elements, or gating mechanisms. You’ll also want to use this section to introduce the main characters.

Page 1: Introduction to the TeamPage

Here, you must describe the features and limitations relevant to every platform you want to launch your game on. Remember to include concepts and infographics to visualize your ideas to others. The key recommendation here is to keep the intro page straightforward. However, ensure you’ve included all the significant details about the game. You’ll see a great design document example shortly to see what we mean. The Game Overview section is a high-level summary of your game’s core concept, game genre, target audience, and platforms.

So creating a document that’s easy for everyone to understand is really important. By now, you know that writing a good GDD is an important, early step in the creation of your game. It helps you think through your design, define your initial scope, and rally your team and other stakeholders around your vision. By following the steps and writing some key sections, you’ll start building a solid foundation for your game’s development. Next, define your game’s genre, and provide reference examples of similar games. This helps your team get a better sense of the game’s style, gameplay, and mechanics.

What to read next

For example, you might have one feature document for boulder traps, another for the player’s hookshot power-up, and a third to cover how the adaptive music system works. I often see websites sell GDD templates to cater for this supposed need for massive documents. By the way, as you’re reading this post, if you have any questions or issues implementing you can get free help in the #game-design channel in Funsmith Club Discord, or you can DM me there.

Be sure to identify your target audience, because that will help guide many different design decisions. If you need to persuade other people to join or invest in your project, having a solid GDD will be a valuable tool. When you can present a well-organized, detailed GDD, it builds trust that you’re a “professional.” And it gives stakeholders confidence that you’ve thought everything through.

A game design document (GDD) is a software design document that serves as a blueprint from which your game is to be built. It helps you define the scope of your game and sets the general direction for the project, keeping the entire team on the same page. The one-page design document approach is a method of creating engaging design documents by focussing on how well they communicate a particular idea.

If your game has levels -- or some form of variation -- all of the levels don’t need to be defined 100% ahead of time — but we do need an overall plan about how many levels there are and a 'map' of how they related. Also, a few key examples of easy, medium, and difficult levels need to clearly be diagrammed. When it comes to the game economy or systems, the more numbers the better. Excel / Google Sheets is ideal, so we can ‘play with’ all the key variables in the game and understand the data structures that need to be created.

A usual layout template may give you typical articles such as home, about us, service, product, and some others. However, if you find these sections not that functional for your company, you should delete them. What you should remember is that there should be proper coordination of all your sections. According to the InternetLiveStats.com, there are at least 1.5 billion websites on the internet today, while only 200 million, roughly 13 percent, of these, are active. The highly anticipated prequel House of the Dragon arrived on August 21 and crashed HBO Max, with millions of viewers ready to watch a new era of Targaryen antics. We barely get to know Laena Velaryon on HotD before she dies (how else) horrifically; but she clearly passes her spirit and nobility along to her two daughters with Daemon. If the books are any indication, their projected storylines won’t be all roses.

How is Daenerys Targaryen on Game of Thrones related to Rhaenyra Targaryen on House of the Dragon?

Viserys's father was Prince Baelon Targaryen, who had three children – Viserys, Daemon and Aegon, the latter of which died before he turned one year old. At a council to decide the succession, the lords of Westeros voted for Viserys to rule after his grandfather. He is the third child of King Viserys and Alicent Hightower, and younger brother of Aegon and Halaena. He rides the formidable dragon Vhagar following Lady Laena Velaryon's death. Alicent is the daughter of Otto Hightower, the Hand of the King, and the second wife to Viserys. She is known for being one of the most attractive women in the Seven Kingdoms.

King Viserys I Targaryen

After he assassinated his lover/unknown-aunt Dany, Jon was exiled back into the Night's Watch, and later travelled with the Wildlings to the land north of the Wall. There's currently a Jon Snow sequel series in development with Harington returning, so we may learn what's next for the hero in the future. Three years after the divisive finale of Game of Thrones, it's time to return to a simpler time in Westeros (though is life in Westeros ever simple?).

Viserys (played by Paddy Considine) is the fifth Targaryen king to rule the Seven Kingdoms, succeeding his grandfather Jaehaerys after being chosen by the Great Council among at least 14 contenders with potential claims. He married his cousin Aemma Arryn at an early age and they have a daughter, Rhaenyra. Viserys’ reign is considered the high-water mark of power for House Targaryen. During his 55 years on the throne, the realm is prosperous, the smallfolk are content, dragons thrive in great numbers, and so does the family.

She marries Daemon and they live together happily while she raises her twin daughters, Rhaena and Baela. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have the easiest fate when it comes to childbirth — but suffice it to say she doesn’t go down quietly. We’re introduced to some of the key players in House of the Dragon’s first episode, but there’s a major learning curve thanks to the sheer size of the Targaryen family and their tendency to repeat names from generation to generation. Oh, and let’s not forget their infamous tendency to marry each other — a fun Targaryen trait we’ll soon witness. As Game of Thrones fans know, Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen (or Khaleesi) played a major role in the hit series’ eight seasons.

Baelon Targaryen

"The Young King" Viserys, the fifth Targaryen king of the Seven Kingdoms, has also ruled over a period of peace so far. It's also the height of the Targaryens' power, with the family and their dragons thriving along with the realm. Viserys married his cousin Aemma Arryn at an early age and they have one daughter, Rhaenyra, as of the beginning of HotD. Aemma was pregnant with a second child in the series premiere, with Viserys expecting a son, but by the end of the episode, the king is left with no queen and no male heir.

Laena was also pregnant with a third child, but the baby was stillborn and wouldn't deliver, with Laena commanding her own dragon to kill her by fire rather than suffering a slow, painful death by childbirth. We only meet her briefly in Episode 6, where she makes a prophetic-sounding observation while holding a little bug. By the end of Season 1, she has become queen as her brother Aegon's wife, and she also has given a confirmed prophecy ("the beast beneath the boards" being Rhaenys and her dragon crashing Aegon's coronation").

Upon his mother's ascension to the role of Queen, Jacaerys becomes the disputed heir to the throne and carries the title Prince of Dragonstone. By the end of episode 8, Jacaerys is betrothed to his cousin-once-removed and step-sister, Lady Baela Targaryen. Together, the pair have had two children by the time of episode 8 and Rhaenyra is pregnant with a third. Eventually, King Viserys comes to name Rhaenrya as his heir and makes the lords of Westeros swear to honour this pledge. At the start of the series, Viserys has only one legitimate child – a daughter, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.

The other Targaryen children mock him for his inability to bond with one of the fire-breathing creatures. When Laena Velaryon dies, Aemond claims her dragon, upsetting Rhaena and starting a scuffle among the children that costs Aemond his eye. But Aemond gains a powerful weapon in the form of a new dragon for his mother’s side in the coming battle. Vital Records consist of births, adoptions, marriages, divorces, and deaths recorded on registers, certificates, and documents. The state has records since July 1905, although county records may start earlier.

Thankfully, Aegon did have Duncan, who slew Daemon in single combat, bringing the uprising to an end. It’s perhaps unsurprising then that the Blackfyre family rose up twice during his reign, as did the Greyjoys. Thankfully, the machinations of one of Aeon IV’s Great Bastards, Aegon Waters, aka Bloodraven (Yes, the same Bloodraven Bran trained with), kept the kingdom from ruin. The Great Spring Sickness, though, was no laughing matter, and it chewed through the Targaryen dynasty like a rabid dog, so when Daeron died, Aerys was next in line for the throne. Bookish and weak, Aerys was not exactly the ideal Westerosi king and his supposed asexuality made the matter of his succession extremely complicated. Daemon had another son, Haegon, who went into the family business of rebelling against the Targaryens.

House of the Dragon turns back the clock to the weird old days of Targaryen rule — more specifically, the period before and during a civil war called the Dance of the Dragons. Needless to say, there are a lot more Targaryens around in this time than there were during Thrones, and remembering who’s related to who is a lot harder in this show. Not only do we have what the Targaryen family tree looked like at the start of Season 1, but also we've got the update to keep things straight after the Season 1, episode 6 time jump. After the six-year jump before epsidoe 8, Aegon has married his sister Helaena and they share twins, Prince Jaehaerys and Princess Jaehaera. After his father Viserys death, Aegon is thrust into the role of king, though he doesn't want it (he'd rather drink and gamble and sire rumored illegitimate kids in King's Landing). However, her mother Alicent convinces him to take the throne as the Greens' placed monarch.

The Secret Life of Reptiles and Amphibians

reptile house

After being founded on July 10, 2009, people started visiting the shop just to see the reptiles at the zoo. An exhibit’s design is carefully and deliberately planned to provide physically and mentally stimulating toys, activities, and environments for the Zoo’s animals. Each enrichment is tailored to give an animal the opportunity to use its natural behaviors in novel and exciting ways. Herpetology is the study of reptiles and amphibians, and is a branch of Zoology.

The largest lizard is the Komodo dragon, weighing up to 175 pounds (80 kilograms) and measuring up to 10 feet long (3 meters). Tortoises have the longest life span in the reptile order; some can live more than 150 years. The company then created Jurassic Parties in 1995, which allowed for more learning about reptiles via interactive events. Jay Brewer, and ex-fisherman and the founder of the store, decided to build an indoor zoo next to the shop to attract visitors.

The exhibits have extensive graphics and there are educational panels about New Jersey’s endangered reptiles and amphibians and the recent extinction of some species. Visitors can learn animal facts using interactive educational flip panes. Take time to closely examine the crocodilian and Komodo dragon skulls and snake skeleton. Arboreal Reptile Enclosures

The goal is to build resources and improve expertise in Panama so that Panamanians could conserve their unique biodiversity of amphibians. On April 8, 2015, PARCP opened a rescue lab at the Gamboa Amphibian Research and Conservation Center to house colonies of amphibians threatened by the deadly Chytrid fungus. In 1999, Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute scientists working with a researcher at the University of Maine described a chytrid fungus that causes the deadly amphibian skin disease chytridiomycosis. Since then, the understanding of amphibian declines and this disease has improved greatly. Scientists now suspect that amphibian chytrid fungus originated in Southern Africa. Chytrid threatens amphibians in the biodiverse hotspots of Central and South America, with more than 25 to 30 species currently at risk.

He was so impressed by the skills and knowledge of the young Procter, that he invited her to work with him in 1916, and acted as a mentor to her. When George Boulenger retired, Procter took over from him at the British Museum. Her passion for nature began at a young age and in the ZSL Collection we have a book on reptiles gifted to her by her younger sister Chrystobel for her 13th birthday. The building itself was designed by Dr Joan Beauchamp Procter, Curator of Reptiles, with the architect Sir Edward Guy Dawber.

Often, Ms. Walton will have to sift through the dirt of the different encloses to try and collect tortoise eggs to safety house and incubate them, ensuring these baby tortoises have the best chance of survival. The main reason as to why many species of reptiles and amphibians are endangered is the direct threat from humans. If you want to help amphibians and reptiles around the globe here in San Diego, then make sure to spread the word! Many people are uneducated and do not know that the turtle in the pet store is endangered or the snake on the hiking trail is harmless.

To ensure the utmost safety for reptiles and their keepers, we exclusively utilize high-quality PVC & HDPE panels that are made in the USA. These panels are free from heavy metals, lead, and additives that may emit potentially harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs). By prioritizing the well-being of reptiles and their environment, This ensures a secure and healthy habitat for your beloved pets. Reptiles are cold-blooded, usually egg-laying vertebrates (animals with backbones).

Procter corresponded widely with fellow reptile experts and enthusiasts around the world – in several languages. The letters written to her that we hold in the Archive show that she was well regarded by everyone from professional herpetologists, to neighbours, and school children. Procter was friends with George Boulenger’s son – Edward – who was at the time Reptile Curator at ZSL London Zoo.

None of these problems are too big for us to come together and solve. Reptiles are vertebrates, they have scaly skin that keeps their bodies from drying out, and their young do not go through a larva stage like amphibians but instead look like small versions of the adults when they emerge. Reptiles are ectotherms, so they must bask in the sun or find a warm spot to get warm and become active, and they must find shade or a cool spot to cool off. In cold conditions they become sluggish and don't move around much, and some enter a state of torpor or brumation (similar to hibernation) if it will be cold for a long time. Our large South American exhibit is a mixed species exhibit where you can see animals living harmoniously from the exhibit floor to the tops of the trees.

The Reptile House & Rescue is our area’s only 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated reptile and amphibian no-kill animal shelter and rescue. We are also our region's only Rescue Zoo with over 60 rehabilitated reptiles and amphibians on exhibit and used as educational ambassadors. Most reptiles make nests or dig holes to lay their eggs in, although some snakes and lizards (about 20 percent of them) give live birth. Some, like crocodiles and alligators and some of snakes, stay to guard the nest after laying their eggs and even help the hatchlings get started in life. But most mother reptiles leave the nest once the eggs are laid.

Read more about training crocodiles and alligators in the Zoo’s Croc and Gator Blog. Enclosures were designed to mimic the animals’ wild habitats and encourage natural behaviors. Cuban crocodiles and gharials, for example, have the option to spend their time swimming in their pools or resting on dry land.

The orange numbers will show you more information on the species in each tank. Reptiles can be found in all types of habitats except polar ice and tundra. A famous scene from Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone was filmed in the Reptile House in November 2001. In the scene, a Burmese python speaks to Harry Potter, played by Daniel Radcliffe for the first time. In fact, the enclosure filmed is actually home to our black mamba.

We teach that all areas of science (and other studies) all work together to keep our biosphere functional. While reptiles are known for being creepy critters, they also are some of the most specular animals on the planet. This afternoon, we went down to the Reptile House to meet with Ms. Rachael Walton, a Senior Reptile Keeper at the San Diego Zoo. Throughout our experience, we got to go behind the scenes, actually going inside the Reptile House to get a closer look at some of the Zoo’s reptile and amphibian collection. All the while, Ms. Walton shared with us what she does on a day-to-day basis, and what the Zoo is doing to conserve these incredible creatures.

This includes making detailed observations of the physiology of different species, their current ranges, and ability to withstand or adapt to climate change. A few species may adapt relatively easily to a warmer, more variable climate. Ensuring that “corridors” are available for migration of salamanders northward to healthy, cooler habitats may work for other salamanders. Mountaintop species may require relocation if they become too pressured by climate change or competitive species. Finally, raising salamanders in human care will establish an assurance colony to guard against extinction in the wild and provide more opportunities for research.

The idea of having a building specifically for snakes, lizards, frogs and other amphibians was new at the time, but interest in these creatures seemed to be high enough to warrant the new facility. The Reptile House was renovated 50 years later, and today, it is home to more than 700 animals. In 2002, the Reptile House was renamed the Charles H. Hoessle Herpetarium in honor of the Zoo's Director Emeritus. Watching over you will be a life size pterodactyl that ruled the skies of planet earth 150,000 million years ago. Through large glass panels you can closely view turtles, snakes, and lizards.
